Ladies Championship sees some great golf played
Hard fought semi-finals and final see Liz Hartley Ladies Champion 2010

After some great qualifying rounds on Monday and Tuesday, Liz Hartley qualified with best gross and Sonia Kennedy with best net. With Ann Walker and Ann Murphy qualifying 3rd and 4th, we had our four semi finalists.
The morning's matches saw Liz and Sonia triumphant and facing up for what promised to be an interesting final in the afternoon. There was a good turnout of ladies to walk the course and encourage the players.

Best Net Trophy from
Muriel Forster, Lady Captain
Sonia put up a tremendous fight, putting Liz under pressure from the start with a win on the first hole.
Liz struck back immediately with a win on the second, then piled on the pressure by chipping in for a birdie on the third!
The fourth fell to Liz, too, when Sonia had trouble in the sand, but she returned the favour of the chip-in on the fifth when she chipped her ball from above the green on the right, right across and down the hill, straight into the hole - bringing the defecit back to one hole!
The sixth was halved but despite sinking a great putt down and across the green, Sonia went a further hole down on the seventh.

from Muriel Forster, Lady Captain
The eighth was halved in 4's then Sonia lipped out on the ninth to go three holes down after the first nine. Mind you, Liz had had to play that nine to scratch to achieve this!
Liz overhit a chip on ten to lose the hole to Sonia's par but again she struck straight back on eleven with a 'gimmee' par to go back to three up.
Twelve was halved and then a birdie from Liz on thirteen took her to four up and five to play (and had her still playing to scratch!)
A four on the fourteenth was good enough to take a hole back as Liz hit right through the green and left a nasty chip back. A great putt from Sonia on the fifteenth very nearly saw another hole back but Liz was equal to the task and made it a half. The fifteenth also saw Lady Captain (and umpire for the final), Muriel Forster, brandishing a tape measure as she decided who was 'away'.
With Liz three up and three to play, it was only a matter of time and a good chip and putt on the sixteenth was enough to finish the job with a score of 3 and 2.
Lady Captain, Murial Forster, made the presentation once everyone was back in the clubhouse (with a little aside to Liz that she was only 'loaning' the cup to her for this year - most of you will know that Liz and Muriel have fought over this trophy several times in the past few years) Liz also made a short speech and dedicated her win to Isabelle Lathan, who sadly was unable to be there to watch the final for the first time in many years.

The history of the Ladies' trophy competitions is now available to be viewed on the website

Though there are no Honours Boards showing the Ladies' achievements in the Clubhouse, now at least, they are available to view online in the Honours Boards section of the website!
All of the major trophies have their page along with a picture of the trophy, information concerning who presented it, when it was first played for, the format, etc.
Plus, of course, the history of winners of the trophy. Just click HERE or on the left hand menu item - 'Ladies Section Trophies'.
Though I know many of the current and recent members of the club I am sure I will have the 'marital status' (ie. Mrs or Miss) wrong in some cases - especially as regards the earlier entries. If anyone sees any glaring errors or anything they would like me to correct, please feel free to contact me (via the 'contact webmaster' link in the contacts menu) and I will make the changes....Chris Hartley
