Competition News update

Braidwood Cup

The weather is improving, the course is looking good and the competition season is moving into full swing. This weekend we have the the Braidwood Cup which was re-scheduled from the start of the season. We will be playing off the white markers and this will be our first qualifier of the season. The preferred lies will be on fairways only, see note below.

Knockout entries

As the number of entries into the Knock out competitions is low we are extending the deadline for entering until next Sunday 29th April. The entry list will be back on the notice boards today so if you wish to play please enter this week. As usual please put entry fee into an envelope and post into the Scorecard box. Those who have entered but not yet paid please do so as those unpaid entries will be cancelled.

Local rule for preferred lies - FAIRWAYS ONLY

“A ball lying on a closely-mown area through the green may be lifted, without penalty, cleaned and replaced on a spot, within six inches, of where it originally lay and not nearer the hole. A player may place his ball only once, and it is in play when it has been placed. Note: “Closely-mown area” means any area of the course, including paths through the rough, cut to fairway height or less”.

 Local rule for embedded balls:

“Through the green (i.e. the whole area of the course except the teeing ground and putting green of the hole being played and all hazards on the course) a ball that is embedded in its own pitch-mark in the ground may be lifted, without penalty, cleaned and dropped as near as possible to where it lay but not nearer the hole. The ball when dropped must first strike a part of the course through the green.

Exception:

A player may not take relief under this Local Rule if interference by anything other than the condition covered by this Local Rule makes the stroke clearly impracticable”.
