Team was Alex Brown, Josh McCutcheon, Sam Wilkinson, Jon Douglas, Graeme Simpson and Ben Squire. This match was a precursor to the Davison cup final so some tough matches were expected. As things turned out it was much more straightforward and all matches were won quite comfortably in the end. Alex didn’t start too well and was 5 down after 9 but as he’s done several times this season he fought back well to win 2 up on 18. Ben too started slowly and his opponent took an early lead but after taking a penalty third shot on the 10th from the middle of the 9th fairway and winning the hole with a 5 his opponent lost his way and he won easily 4-2 on 16. The matches for the rest of team were won quite easily. Josh took an early lead and maintained it to win 6-4 on 14. Sam took took it more slowly but built up to a 3-1 win on 17. Jon too built up an early 6 up lead by the 9th and went on to win 6-4 on 14. Graeme took an early lead and went on to again win easily 4-3 on 15.
This was a great way to finish our league season and moves us into second place in the Hadrian league albeit with additional matches played over our close rivals. We’ll find out our closing league position next Wednesday when all matches will then have been played. So well done to everyone that’s taken part in any of the team matches this season. The quality of golf has been of the highest order and a great improvement over last season with very little change to the team personnel.
The last team event of the season is the Davison Cup final against Tyneside at Matfen on Sunday 19 August and any supporters are very welcome to attend and it would be great if we could get as many there as possible on the day.
