Competitions Update

This weekend we have our first Qualifier off the white tees, we still have preferred lies in operation but only on “closely mown areas”, not “through the green” please see notice at the end of this blog. Also the "Rake & Place" local rule is ended as all bunkers are back in play.

We are now using CONGU handicaps and not all members have active handicaps (you can check on the website or on the PSI terminal in the hall, active handicaps have a “c” after the exact handicap). In order to keep your handicap active you must have at least 3 qualifying scores each year (either scores from qualifying competitions or supplementary scores). As usual we allow those with in-active handicaps to enter competitions in order to record a qualifying score but they are not eligible to win.

We are seeing a high number of NR’s recorded and we encourage all competitors to enter a score into the PSI terminal at the end of the round, even if you have not completed one or more holes please enter a score into the holes you have completed as failure to do so distorts the CSS calculation and creates extra work in administering the competition results and handicaps. Please help us to improve our record keeping. We are aware the PSI terminals are slow to respond and we are working to rectify the problem, in the meantime please be patient and persevere as they do work eventually.

Local rule for preferred lies

“A ball lying on a closely-mown area through the green may be lifted, without penalty, cleaned and replaced on a spot, within six inches, of where it originally lay and not nearer the hole. A player may place his ball only once, and it is in play when it has been placed. Note: “Closely-mown area” means any area of the course, including paths through the rough, cut to fairway height or less”.
