MAY 2019 NEWS LETTER

Finance

Membership renewals for this coming year are going very well, and Norma has received subscriptions slightly above our budget figures.

Mick is continuing to make savings on his greens budget, but still maintaining the course to a high standard. Advanced party bookings and green fees are also up on this time last year. Andy is continuing to provide a good return from behind the bar.

Having said all that we still need to keep a tight grip on the purse strings and generate more income from wherever possible ( Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated ). Cash flow is our main concern ( Not particularly at this time of year ) and the committee are working on ways to overcome this.

Land Sale Update

Jen Page has been working nonstop with the planners on this issue, and eventually, we are going for outline planning permission for 16 luxury apartments, at the NCC planning meeting on 11th June. Fingers crossed.

Clubhouse

We are now well into the Golf Season and things should now start to take off in the bar. The cellar has had a total revamp last week, including a new pumping / cooling system, which is going to save us a lot of money in wastage, over time. The Snooker table has been sold, to enable the club to generate more income from the space it occupied, ( Sorry you guys who still used it ). The committee are at this moment clearing the room out, and we are mulling over several options for it’s future use. Unfortunately we have just had to install a new ultra modern alarm system to replace the old one, at quite a cost, but it needed doing urgently.

Marketing

Graeme Simpson has just joined the committee as Marketing Director. Graeme has a background in Marketing, and reduces the average age of the committee quite a lot. He already has some great ideas going forward and will be working closely with Alex Brown, Ben Squire, and Steve Harrison, to promote these. Watch this space.

Course

Mick Byerley as Director of Course Services has now got his full staff on board and it is all systems go. Peter Anderson a Greenkeeper of many years experience  has joined us along with Paul Joyce, who many of you already know. Paul is an expert mechanic and will take over the machine servicing and maintenance, as well as green keeping duties. Along with our ANT we have a competent and happy crew going forward. The course is already in fantastic condition and can only improve, and costs will be down. We have already had a steady flow of volunteers helping out where they can and helping presenting the course in a much improved way. Thank you all very much.

Golf

The golfing season is now well underway, under the guidance of the various captain’s. The Hadrian League Team, The Senior’s Team, and the Ladies all made winning starts to their campaigns and we have a very keen Junior section.

Best of luck to everyone for the coming season.
