RIGHT ON STOCKSFIELD! Match day 15 - Stocksfield 12 Ryton 0
A fantastic way to finish a thoroughly enjoyable league season. John Eden and Martin Wilkinson both won on the last after tough battles, Graeme Simpson had another big win - 7 and 5; Ben
Squire won 5 and 3; Sam Wilkinson 3 and 1 and Josh McCutcheon 3 and 2. A huge thank you from Barney and myself to all members of the squad for their dedication, skill and sportsmanship -
it has been an absolute pleasure to watch you play and share your company gentlemen!
Thank you also to Phil and his team for providing such a great course to
play on and for Graeme and Val for feeding us so well. A final thanks to all who came to support the team in any way.
BROADSIDE AT TYNESIDE Matchday 14 - Tyneside 11 Stocksfield 1
Nothing went our way tonight with our sole point coming from number 1 John Eden who was 1 up teeing off on 18 and was unlucky to lose his ball. Players and squad members were
kept up to date by on course reports and interviews by Radar Henderson.
STOCKSFIELD PUT SHIRE TO BED Matchday 13 - Stocksfield 8 Bedlingtonshire 4
An excellent win tonight for the cream of Stocksfield golfers - wins for John Eden 5&4, Old man Wilkinson 2&1, Ben Squire 4&3 and a tremendous debut win for Jon
Best on the last.
A BRIDGE TOO FAR - Matchday 12 - Ponteland 10 Stocksfield 2
A very strong Ponteland team proved just too good for our gallant boys. On a night of outstanding golf and sportsmanship our battling qualities were exemplified by Martin
Wilkinson who came back from 4 down to get a half and Josh McCutcheon who went in at number one and got a fantastic half against their club champion Russell Hayhoe.
Next up Bedlington at home on Tuesday 25 July. All support welcome!
SUPER STOCKSFIELD GO BALLISTIC - Matchday 11 - STOCKSFIELD 12 BELLINGHAM 0
Enough said. Go on boys!!
STOCKSFIELD SUNK AT THE TOON - Match day 10 - Newcastle United 12 Stocksfield 0
Arriving at the course it looked more like an outdoor swimming pool in some places, but it proved playable, with the greens largely unaffected by the heavy rains.
Newcastle put out a very strong team with the formidable Phil Ridden leading the way, followed by a smattering of players with 'plus' handicaps and a former tour professional in Mike
Archer. Our boys put up an excellent fight, with at least 4 of the matches in the balance for much of the evening. Ben Squire failed by one putt to keep up his record of always
getting at least a half; he and Josh McCutcheon being the first visiting players of the season to take matches down the 18th.
Next up Bellingham on Monday; we will be looking to avenge our defeat in the Davison Cup. All support welcome.
OLD BOYS SLAYED - Hadrian League Match day 9 - Stocksfield 7 Slaley 5
The team of John Eden, Sam Wilkinson, Mark Laverick, Alex Brown, Graeme Simpson and Ben Squire took to the field in atrocious conditions against a number of Stocksfield team old boys and
emerged victorious. Highlights were tremendous wins of 8 and 7 for Graeme, reversing a similar score against the same opponent last year and 4 and 3 for Alex against Slaley VC John Lee.
Also a great win on the last for John in spite of giving away 6 handicap shots to Dan Shevill with Ben again came in with another great half, the third in succession. Sam was unlucky to
lose against Dom Lee on the last after putting his tee shot into the bunker and unfortunately the autumnal conditions got the better of Mark on a day when he found Ben Lee on good form.
Well done to all the boys showing great fighting spirit and commitment yet again.
OH WE DON'T LIKE TO BE BESIDE THE SEASIDE Matchday 8 - Newbiggin 10 Stocksfield 2
Apologies to my loyal readers for my inability to come up with a suitable pun for this week's episode. On officially the hottest June day in 41 years - just our luck to be playing at
Our boys came up against tough opposition tonight on their own patch and played very well but were just unable to sink those vital putts. The old man of the team on the night, Martin
Wilkinson, went round in 2 over par yet lost 2 and 1. Young Wilky however scored our only win against Houdini Gascoigne, who seemed to be second favourite on every hole yet took young Sam
to the last with some amazing scrambling. Some nights just don't go your way but I was immensely proud of our boy's attitude, fight, skill and sportsmanship - they were a credit to the
game and our club.
HOPES GO WEST AT WESTERHOPE - Hadrian League Matchday 7 - Westerhope 9 Stocksfield 3
This rearranged match proved too hot for us to handle on a glorious summer's evening. Westerhope came out all guns blazing - Martin Wilkinson's opponent was a case in point, he
birdied the first 4 holes! Highlights from our boys tonight were a fantastic 5 and 4 win for Mark Laverick, those extra sessions on the rowing machine and some r and r in Crete
proving just the tonic. Management team of Neil and Barney were worried when Mark got to 5 up but our iron man showed tremendous stamina to see the match out in fine style. Ben Squire
just does not know when he is beaten - finding himself 3 down with 5 to play he won three holes on the trot with a couple of birdies helping his cause. He then went one down on the
17th but holed a brave putt on the last to half his match.
PROUD HIGHS AND LOWS Hadrian League Matchday 6 - Stocksfield 5 Prudhoe 7
The away game at Westerhope last week was cancelled due to a waterlogged course, to be rearranged.
With the absence of captain Neil making sure that he never forgets that he's reached the ripe old age of 60 it fell to me as VC to captain the team this week. The team selected was
John Eden, Sam Wilkinson, Martin Wilkinson, Ben Squire, Graeme Simpson and Josh McCutcheon and a pretty close game ensued.
There were significant highs for 2 of our team with Graeme winning 4 and 3 after claiming to be playing badly and suggesting that he drop down in the playing order and young
gun Josh winning with an impressive 5 and 3 against past Prudhoe captain, ex Stocksfield player and wannabe captain Paul Potts. Also a very good half for Ben against Jimenez
lookalike Paul Bradley. Unfortunately there were lows for John, Sam and Martin all losing close fought matches at 2 and 1 on the 17th hole and all with winning opportunities
that just didn't come off on the night.
YOUNG GUNS TURN HEADS Hadrian League Matchday 5 - Stocksfield 4 Hexham 8
Excellent effort by the cream of Stocksfield Golf tonight against a powerful Hexham team. All of our boys (I use the term loosely in the case of Mr Laverick ) were up against it
tonight as we gave away many shots against our opponents. Our number one John Eden is unlikely to play a more gifted golfer than Matty Lamb all season yet he had his chances and
fought all of the way. Highlights tonight were a fantastic 5 and 4 victory by a Scotty Cameron inspired Sam Wilkinson against the well established and respected Sean Heads. There was
also a sweet victory for young debutant Josh McCutcheon, 3 and 2 against former Stocksfield star James Cram. This followed a gross 70 that Josh had posted earlier in the day!! Ben
Squire also made an impressive debut, eventually losing on the 17th. Special thanks to Mick Byerley for helping out on the 19th.
WALL'S WELL THAT ENDS WELL - Hadrian League Matchday 4 - Wallsend 3 Stocksfield 9
A stirring finish resulted in a great win for our bonny lads. Highlights tonight - Graeme Simpson wins 8 and 6. Sam Wilkinson is 2 inches from an albatross on his way to another win,
Martin makes it a great father and son double. Alex Brown fights back from 4 down to half the match on the last and the enigma that is Mark Laverick gives us all a heart attack on his way
to a gritty 1 up win. Great stuff.
STOCKSFIELD ON THE MAT - Hadrian League Matchday 3 - Stocksfield 3 Matfen Hall 9.
The management team of Neil and Barney had the luxury of resting players of the calibre of Mark Laverick and Graeme Simpson and called up John Eden for his debut. John went in at number one
followed by Sam Wilkinson, Alex Brown, Martin Wilkinson, Jon Douglas and Simon Martin.
The match was much closer than the final result would suggest with no fewer than four matches going to the last, Jon Douglas losing on the 18th and John, Sam and Alex all having to settle for
draws when each of them might well have won their match. The spirit in the squad remains excellent, Mark and Graeme supporting the team all night despite their disappointment at being
left out, and a new caddying role was performed in excellent fashion by past captain and not quite yet past player Richie Armstrong. Apologies to Mark Brewis who also gave fantastic
support but missed out on the curry....
STOCKSFIELD GO CRACKERS AT JOHN JACOBS - HL Matchday 2 - Parklands 5 Stocksfield 7.
Some exciting golf was played by the cream of Stocksfield golfers to earn our first victory of the season. Line up was Sam Wilkinson, Alex Brown, Mark Laverick, Jon Douglas, Graeme Simpson and
The tone for the night was set by Alex on the first hole. He drove out of bounds, re-loaded and then holed his second shot for an unlikely par and a win! He went on to half his match after a
ding-dong battle with Craig Wayman. Simon had a big win against former club champion Rod Armstrong and Jon brought home the bacon again after dominating his match.
Graeme clinched the overall match for us on his return to the team, beating Ryan Clark on the 17th.
SLAYED BY THE BELL - Davison Cup Round 1 - Bellingham 3 Stocksfield 2
The line up was: Sam Wilkinson, Martin Wilkinson, Jon Douglas, Simon Martin and Trevor Liddle
DAD'S ARMY GO CLOSE - Hadrian League
Matchday 1 - Stocksfield 5 Close House 7.
Captain Neil chose an experienced line up for our first game of the season; at home to reigning champions Close House:- Sam Wilkinson, Martin Wilkinson, Alex Brown,
Mark Laverick, Jon Douglas & Simon Martin. With our number one playing off 4 handicap and their number six off 2 our boys were all giving away at least 4 shots and were really up against
it but they came so close to sharing the points.
Rabbits Red Zone Fixtures 2017
- STOCKSFIELD 13 Aug Sun 11:00
- GARESFIELD 27 Aug Sun 09:00
- RAVENSWORTH 10 Sep Sun 10:30
The Northumberland Junior League Teams Championship Day was held at Matfen Hall on sunday 14 July. In VERY windy conditions the 4 man team of Josh McCutcheon, Sam Joyce,
Josh Ward and Archie Wilson performed extremely well and were winners of the TEAM NETT prize. Sam Joyce was second in the individual GROSS prize with a very commendable 77 in extremely
difficult conditions. The best GROSS score being 75.
The Junior League Finals Day held at Blyth Golf Club on Sunday 9 July produced a very high standard of golf throughout the day. Regrettably the Stocksfield team of Sam
Wilkinson, Josh McCutcheon, Sam Joyce, Josh Ward, John Clarkson and Archie Wilson lost their semi final against Matfen Hall 4 matches to 2. It was a very close affair with 3 of the matches going
to the 18th hole.
The play off for 3rd and 4th place against Hexham produced even closer games with 4 of the matches going to the 18th hole but unfortunately for Stocksfield they
lost 3 ½ to 2 ½. In ALL of the matches Stocksfield were paired against players with lower handicaps than themselves but acquitted themselves extremely well as they played below their
handicaps on each occasion. The day was littered with birdies and eagles and there was a hole in one as Francessca Chilton from Matfen Hall achieved the feat on the 9th in her
game against John Clarkson. The eventual winners were Matfen Hall who defeated Whitley Bay in the final.
The Stocksfield team were commended not just for the standard of golf but also how they conducted themselves on the day for which they can be extremely proud.
Stocksfield 8 Hexham 4.
The Junior team took full advantage of their home fixture against a very strong Hexham team littered with low handicapped golfers, impressive wins by Josh McCutcheon,
Ollie Wilson, Molly McCutcheon and Archie Wilson saw them home. The match was played in great spirit and some extremely good golf played. The course was in very good
condition and was praised by all the Hexham team.
Stocksfield 10 Northumberland 2.
The Junior Team produced a fine win at home against the Northumberland Club with impressive wins for Sam Joyce, Josh McCutcheon, Ollie Wilson, Archie Wilson and Molly
McCutcheon. They continue their fixtures this Sunday against Hexham at home teeing off at 3.00pm
Westerhope 8 Stocksfield 4.
Unfortunately the match at Westerhope saw a very late withdrawal of a team player which meant only having 5 players. A very impressive win by Josh McCutcheon and another great
performance by Archie Wilson who won the last hole to win 2 up.
Tynemouth 7 Stocksfield 5.
The Junior Team have begun their league season away at Tynemouth with impressive wins from Ollie Wilson and Josh Ward and a very gutsy performance by Archie Wilson who won the
18th hole to gain a point for a halved game.
Stocksfield 6 Hexham 6
A disappointing result at home against our arch enemy.
Ponteland 4 Stocksfield 8
An excellent away result at Ponteland
Whitley Bay 5 Stocksfield 7
A gritty away result against a tough team
Stocksfield 12 Gosforth 0
Another excellent home performance by the Senior team.
Stocksfield 11 City 1
Another excellent home performance by the Senior team.
Northumberland 10 Stocksfield 2.
A tough match at Northumberland, the only win coming from the pairing of Best and Henderson.
Stocksfield 12 Arcot Hall 0.
An excellent home win against Arcot Hall brought us to mid table after a bad start.
Blyth 10 Stocksfield 2.
A difficult start away at Blyth with the pairing of Barney Armstrong and Keith Wilkins getting the only win.
